I get the distinct (dis)pleasure to yank urinals off walls in a variety of locales here in town to chip/chop/router/auger/rod stonehard salt blocks out of urinals. Then, I set up a maintenance agreement to service them every 2 months or so.

Have they been maintained daily then?

They're probably better off getting rid of them and replacing them with regular urinals and automatic valves. I'm assuming since this was new construction spec-ing waterless urinals that there's no 1" stub outs or even trunk line behind them though. Unless whoever did the rough didn't trust the waterless urinals.

I like muriatic acid for urinal traps. I'd be wary of recommending it to people as a maintenance product though.

I built the place and the city of west Hollywood would not allow provisions for a change out in the future. They require waterless urinals.

If they requested it, then its their problem...with that "high tech".. stuff comes high maintenance...I think anyways...

In reality, it comes down to what happens in ANY place where they have urinals.
NO-ONE is willing to maintain them, and cry like babies when they screw up.
With watered urinals, at least you can see by the flow that they are plugging up.
Peeing into a couple of cups full of oil, what are ya gonna see?

That's what gets MY goat tho.
These high-priced, over-paid, under educated architects & "professional" planners(?) just go thru catalogs and find expensive material that looks nice, and is absolutely dis/non-functional. The "Let's Go Green" bandwagon is full of them.
And they don't ask for professional opinions.

Just look at the bullshit with the low-flow WCs.
The Federal Grabberment up here legislated them into existence, & outlawed the manufacture and sale of the old school 3GPF toilets. No more choice!
And the earlier 1.5GPF toilets do not work. It takes 3 flushes to send the same turd the same distance down the line as the 3GPF did, so where's the saving?

I could go on for days, as this is one of my pet piss-offs.
These days, people with "higher" educations are considered "Professionals", while you & I are considered as manual laborers, or "blue collar". These so-called professionals know less about real life than any of us on this board, IMHO.
    Rant over.
