Default Can you take one last call before you go home?

    I'll never forget this one.

I had been on a roll cleaning drains going from one call to another and was approaching a "Mad Money" record day. It was 9:30 PM, 4 hours after my shift was supposed to end and they were hammered with calls and I finished a call thinking it was time to go home I was beat.

The dispatcher called me asking me to take one more call before I go home...

"It's only a clogged toilet and you are very close to it."

    "Sure... Send it to me!"

It's a clogged toilet alright only the bathroom sink and kitchen sink are contributing to it along with the bathtub...

It can't be too bad though it's on a slab and the pipe comes out into a basement where I can see it connecting to another bathroom above under construction before it goes out the rear of the house. The bathroom under construction is dry so the clog is within 20' of that toilet...

    This should be cake!

I pull the toilet and start snaking. I run the cable out 25' and nothing...

I haul it back and run it again...

I keep the water level right up almost to floor level and snake and snake and snake...

I can't blow bag it because the kitchen sink is in between so I can't get direct pressure. I'm starting to think I'm going to have to go get a jetter from the shop but that's going to add 3 hours travel time alone before I'm home...

I keep snaking and adding water...

Finally 4 hours into the job the water starts moving and I start adding it faster and faster finally it cuts loose and clears...

I remount the toilet collect and finally head home it's 1:30 AM and I have a 45 minute drive home....

That was the worst 20' piece of pipe I ever had to snake!

    I'll never forget it!

My dad always says can you do this one job, it will be a piece of cake. Soon as he says that it turns to a nightmare job.

Just the title of the thread gave me goosebumps. I don't know how many times I heard that. The one that sticks in my mind was clearing a VERY greasy mop sink at a Burger King. I think I left that one at around 11pm with a 30 minute drive home.

My wife takes some of the phone calls. She sometimes say's sounds like an easy one. Nope nightmare. Toilet clog turns into a battle with a Willow tree.

Everytime my old supervisor would say the next job was going to be a piece of cake I would always tell my helper Darell "I hope you don't have any plans this evening". I was usually right.
