Default When customers complain about price

When customers complain about your price's what do you do?
    Do you lower your rates?
    Stick To your rates?
Offer more work like free camera or second drain or extend warrantee?
Lower quality of work for lower price?

With the economy being slow people will play the economy card to save a buck or two. I stick to my rates. There have been a few jobs I have walked away from only to have them call back hours or day's later.

If they dont complain then you not charging enough!

Happens every day!! If they are a returning customer they NEVER complain. They want and trust your service.

New customers or "tire Kickers" are a different story. I just try not to get mad or argue. i must admit Somtimes they due get to me.

Had one today complain. She was shocked about my rates and how could I charge that? The neighbor next door came over after hearing her argue over the price after all he referred me to her and seeing my van out front "I did work for them in the past"
Snaked and camera his sewer. He tells his neighbor who was shocked about the price tells her It's well worth it his sewer has not backed up once in 4 years and we did the work.
She gave in and work was done.

My father always says if they do not complain you are not charging enough, just as JH stated.

When I give them a price and they complain I just tell them "thats Cheap" 9 times out of ten they will agree, some just complain to complain in hopes you will come down in price. If they keep on complaining I tell them they are free to call others for prices. Thats it, I will not come down I will not throw in anything free just for the sale.

I feel if you come down, or toss in free stuff, the customer losses respect for you, and expects you to lower your price all the time.

I stick to my guns. My wife even wants me to lower my rates but I tell her no way. I provide a good honest service for these people but they need to pay my price. I had one call me the other day wanted me to come rod out his sewer line for 50 bucks I told him that wasn't even worth me going out and starting my truck. I may be hard up for work but I will not go out a do a sewer line at handy hack prices. I am a much better drain cleaner and plumber than any of those morons.
