The last thing on my list of equipment I needed to have to not say "Sorry we can't do that" I got! The Pow'r Mole PD-4! This is for taking up the slack on jobs the moles or the pipe burster either could not do or it was dangerous to use them. The main things I see using this for are; Galvanized water mains, splitting them or pulling them out with the pipe burster or pulling wedge with the excavator was a gamble every time. With the rod pusher/puller I think my chances increase a lot to cut the line at the city meter and at the house foundation (this is for straight runs like most are for us) and push the line out while one guy cuts it as it comes out. Then upon reaching the meter pull the new line back in. Also new installs using a new path like under a large concrete slab to an opened hole in the center of the building I feel more comfortable tracing a sonde in the tip of the push rod to prove the path of the blind bore. And if any trouble is encountered simply going into reverse to back out with power seems very comfortable! Under ground stuff is risky and This tool will give me more options than just the point and pray moles lol. I have a lot of different ideas for other things as well but replacing galvanized water lines will boost me past my competition (unless they read this and copy me lol)3712

So to remove the old galvanized line, you would use some type of head to attach the pipe to the first push rod, then push it out, then in the other hole at the other end of the line, use a head to hook to the new line that you would then pull back through?

What type of pipe would you pull back in? HDPE, or what?

The push out head is just an outer cone going around the outside of the galvy or just a flush face fitting.

Then yes switch to a pulling end (clevise or pull sock or both) And an expander head that is 1.5" or 2.5" I use soft copper, hdpe, pex. I don't like black poly PE pipe but if they want it and will at least use 160-200 psi I will install the PE.
